Great scoping is about more than correcting translation errors—it's about delivering a polished, reporter-ready transcript while remaining faithful to the spoken record.
Working directly in Eclipse, I scope every transcript to full audio and carefully review each page for:
As an experienced transcript proofreader, I bring an additional layer of editorial precision to every job. I work closely with court reporters to learn their preferences and collaborate with the proofreader to produce accurate, polished transcripts delivered on time, every time.
Hello, Court Reporters!
I'm Lisa Renegar, a retired public school educator with 30 years of experience and a Master's degree in Educational Leadership.
When I retired, I asked myself, What skills do I already have that I can turn into a second career?
I've been an "armchair proofreader" my entire life, instinctively catching errors everywhere I looked. Although proofreading had been in my family for decades, it wasn't until I learned about transcript proofreading that everything clicked. I quickly realized that proofreading the spoken word is a unique craft requiring a different set of skills—and I knew I had found my next chapter.
I completed specialized training in transcript proofreading, gained a broad understanding of the court reporting profession, and spent months receiving one-on-one mentorship from a veteran proofreader.
That journey became CAT Lady Proofreading and Scoping, and I'm excited to be part of your team!

To deliver clean transcripts; on-time turnaround; competitive rates; and clear, hassle-free communication.
Expedites, long-term relationships, overflow/backup, or the occasional one-off, I can accommodate you!
Your final draft will be readable, correct, and polished—and it will reflect you in the best possible way.

Margie Wakeman Wells, widely regarded as the preeminent grammar and punctuation authority of the court reporting profession, shaped much of the way I understand transcript punctuation.
Her book, Bad Grammar/Good Punctuation, is considered one of the definitive references for punctuating legal transcripts and continues to guide best practices across the industry.

Merriam-Webster is the preferred dictionary for court reporters because it reflects current American usage and provides clear, consistent guidance on spelling, hyphenation, and word forms. Its alignment with industry-standard references ensures accuracy and defensibility in legal transcripts.
I will always correct toward Merriam-Webster's main entry and not acceptable variants. (For example, I will suggest "email" instead of "e-mail"; "moneys" instead of "monies"; and "health care" instead of "healthcare," unless I am directed otherwise by you.)

Daily copy leaves no room for error.
When you're facing tight deadlines, live realtime feeds, demanding attorneys, and long trial days, you need a proofreader who can keep up.
You can expect:

I'm the quiet support working behind the scenes to help you produce the best daily copy possible.
Every transcript is proofread line by line with careful attention to detail. If I need to listen to a sentence 20 times to make out one garbled word, I'll do it.
My commitment:

In daily copy, every member of the team matters.
A dependable proofreader doesn't just proofread—they communicate, coordinate with the scopist(s), and help keep the workflow moving smoothly.
That's the role I strive to fill:
"I will absolutely refer you to my friends."
"Wow, speedy! Aren't you impressive!"
"I am very impressed."
"I agree, your way is the best and newest way for sure."
"I really appreciate you jumping in to help!"
"You're a ROCKSTAR!"
"Gosh you're fast!"
"This is great! Thank you so much!"
"I'm just so grateful to have your help!"
If you already have a preference sheet, you can attach it in an email along with the first job you send. If you don't have a preference sheet, you are encouraged to fill out my Google Form at the link below, to ensure that I am mirroring your style as I proofread or scope.

Transcripts heavy on technical, medical, or "expert" jargon will incur an up charge of $0.10 per page.
This is added when the transcript requires heavy research due to this specialized terminology.

All-colloquy, non-Q and A transcripts (hearings, motions, interviews, voir dire, et cetera) will incur an automatic up charge of $0.10 per page.
For transcripts which are over 25 lines per page, the rate will be $0.05 higher per page.
Scoping for videotaped depositions will incur a $0.15 per page up charge.

If a transcript requires extra care and the scope of work becomes more of an "editing" job, an additional up charge of $0.10 per page will be applied.
Please remember that proofreaders should be receiving a nearly final product to work with.

No job is too small!
For shorter jobs in which the invoice total would be under $15.00, a minimum charge of $15.00 will be applied in lieu of the page count.
In these cases, the total of the job would be $15.00; this would not be an additional charge.

My invoicing and payment service is Wave Financial. For established clients, invoicing is issued twice monthly—on the 1st and 15th—via emailed invoices through Wave Financial.

QR codes to pay via these three methods are found below.
Please note that checks are not accepted.

For new or one-time clients, the first invoice must be paid in full before any additional work will be considered.
This invoice is issued upon completion of the first job and is due upon receipt.
After a client relationship is established, invoices are issued twice monthly, with a 15-day payment window.
